But first, before we all get distracted with thoughts of chocolate, here's the purple winner:
Congrats Terry! I am emailing you for your mailing address.
Okay, back to chocolate...um, I mean brown. To enter to win the brown bundle, simply leave a comment telling me about a traditional holiday dinner in your family (doesn't necessarily have to be Christmas).
Not necessarily my favorite, although it is better than it maybe sounds, but my family's traditional Christmas Eve dinner at my Grandma's house was ham loaf. Yup, like meatloaf but made with ground ham. With cloves stuck in it for added flavor. And frequently sporting a side dish of jello with fruit in it. One time it had carrots, which turned me off of jello with anything suspended in it, but that's a different story.
Good luck!

Well its not a dinner but it was a holiday tradition when my kids where young. On New Years Eve I'd take the kids to store and let them each buy $15 worth of any food that they wanted, twinkies, ding dongs, chips, soda. They could eat and drink as much as they wanted on New Years eve till mid night. Most of the time they ate so much that they were asleep by 10pm, leaving the rest of the evening for me and my husband!
ReplyDeleteWe always have ham and curried fruit for Christmas dinner!

ReplyDeleteA traditional holiday dinner was either turkey and/or spiral ham with a variety of yummy side dishes and homemade apple pies for dessert.
Oh, as browns go -- these are some nice browns! Thanks for the chance...and glad that the mantel is done, too!
ReplyDeleteAlways had what we called scared bananas! It was bananas split in half lengthwise, mayonaise spread on them and then coat them with crushed peanuts. I don't know where they got the name but they were good!

We always have turkey at Christmas followed by Christmas pudding - though we're usually too full for much!
ReplyDeleteUsually a leg of lamb, roast beef and chicken, lots of different veg on the side... Malva pudding with custard or if it was really hot, fruit salad with ice cream.
ReplyDeleteOur family gatherings usually include turkey with all the trimmings. And, I love chocolates (browns)!
ReplyDeleteOur traditional dinner is a carry – in. We all chip in for the meat. Then we each bring certain side dishes. Over the years we've ended up bringing the same side dish each time. We've done the same thing so many times, we no longer have to check with each other about the menu! Thanks for the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteNow that it's just my immediate family for the major meal (total of 5 people) we have prime rib with trimmings. Back in the day when it was the extended family (tons of cousins and all) it was turkey.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite part is the pie. Apple and pumpkin. I eat it for breakfast the next day.
Our family motto is "Gobble, Gobble, Gobble. Eat 'til you wobble" and we try to live up to that standard whenever we are together. A highlight is my mother's homemade cinnamon rolls - much more like a dinner roll than an overboard breakfast sugar fest - and that makes them so much yummier!
ReplyDeleteWe have stuffed ham at Thanksgiving and Christmas. It's a southern Maryland tradition.
ReplyDeleteMy Aunt Von's Jello Salad was a tradition at all family gatherings. Three layers of jello and creme cheese infused with pecans, strawberries, and pineapple! Yum!
ReplyDeleteThe Christmas Eve Prime rib, small plate, dinner, at our house, following a candlelight service. Church and people vary but not the sentiment.

ReplyDeleteThe one meal my children request is ham and scalloped potatoes made with real cream. Christmas has to be Turkey, ham and mashed potatoes and a frozen fruit salad for dessert.
ReplyDeleteI never have enough browns - I never think to purchase them until i need them, so this would be great. Our traditional dinner is turkey, gravy, stuffing, mashed potatoes and assorted sides and salads. Thanks for sharing and for the opportunity on a great draw. bonnielarson58@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteWe always have the usual for Christmas, turkey with all the trimmings. For New Years, I love to make prime rib for just my hubs and I.
ReplyDeleteWe're turkey traditionalists but maybe this year I'll throw a roast on instead, my husband and I aren't as fussy about the bird anymore!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous box of chocolates there ;)
A traditional holiday dinner for us always includes my to die for potato casserole. My kids start hounding me for it, weeks before the actual holiday. We also always have homemade cranberry sauce, jello salad, homemade bread, mashed potatoes, corn and broccoli. Oh and either, ham or turkey. If we have turkey, there is also stuffing. Sometimes, I make a treat for my son and I..brussel sprouts!

When I lived at home we woudl always gather as a family for birthday meals. I always wanted shrimp of some sort and a lemon cake or a chocolate cake with whipped cream - my sister would have spare ribs with VH garlic sauce and a cherry flip for dessert - we loved these traditions :)

Our traditional meal for Christmas is a brunch with a real ham, potatoe cassarole, Mom's green beans with mushrooms and onions, scrambled eggs with cheese, and any other leftovers from the night before. We just had our family get-together this last weekend so our leftovers included fruit salad, relish tray, potatoe salad, deviled eggs, and lots of cookies and candy.
ReplyDeleteOur traditional Christmas meal is usually substantial hors d'oeuvres & finger foods (mini ham & biscuits, mini quiches, and so forth), with cookies, cakes and pies... It's CRAZY (crazy-AWESOME). :)
ReplyDeleteWe take turns hosting the various holidays. It's potluck so always easy for the hostess.

We've been married 8 years now, but we still seem to spend most of the holidays with parents, so I've done very little holiday baking. A fav of mine when we visit my husband's family and have christmas breakfast. the best is the monkey bread. so delish!
