OMQG Block of the Month

I was asked to come up with a block for the Orlando Modern Quilt Guild Block of the Month. Find the post here. I chose the Hashtag block, from a free quilt pattern I designed for Paintbrush Studio using Painter's Palette Solids. For this block, you'll need white and gray, and four different values (either solids or tonal prints).
I made two sample blocks:

Here's the original quilt:

These teal colors are always my favorite!

I wanted to show the block in prints as well. The key is to choose prints that don't have a lot of other colors in them. You'll need a dark, a medium, a medium light, and a light.

Here's a mock-up of the quilt in teal, purple, lime and orange:

OMG Food Trucks Quilt

My April One Monthly Goal at Elm Street Quilts was to finish this quilt top.
I did it!

Now I need to write the pattern and name the quilt (any suggestions?!).

This pattern is great for showcasing fun focal prints. I used Food Trucks by Jeannie Phan for Paintbrush Studio Fabrics.

NEW ZuZu Squares pattern!

I finished this quilt top just in time!

I'm calling this quilt ZuZu Squares. According to Urban Dictionary, the word "ZuZu" means "a beautiful, gorgeous, confident, and intelligent woman who never gives up on anything." And also "a slang term for goodies, candy, and/or snack foods." I think both of those definitions describe this quilt!

The black and white skinny strips are pieced--they could also be made with a stripe if you want to do less piecing.

I chose a variety of bright Painter's Palette Solids to use to make a super colorful Dr. Seuss-inspired quilt.

I used each color in each of the three spots (center, middle frame, and outer frame), mostly...a couple extra colors snuck in as well. This quilt is being quilted as I type this--I'll show photos when it's done.

You can purchase the pattern in my Etsy shop.

See the fabric requirements:

I'm teaching this pattern at a Great Lakes Modern Quilt Guild workshop on Saturday, April 27th--I can't wait!

April OMG: Food Trucks

So I fell in love with this fabric (Food Trucks by Jeannie Phan for Paintbrush Studio Fabrics)...

And designed this quilt....

And started sewing blocks...

I have the outer frame left to sew onto 10 blocks and then assemble it...so that's my goal for April One Monthly Goal--to finish the Food Trucks quilt top!

p.s. Update on my wonky squares quilt, aka my unfinished March goal...coming soon!
